Keep a check of your expenditure

As obvious as it may seem you must keep control of your expenditure. Regular analysis will not only help with control but will also enable you to see where cost savings can be made.

Start with your profit and loss account as this detail all of the previous year’s expenditure and income. Identify the outgoings that you would like to reduce and those that you absolutely have to cut

Check your net margin

Do you know what your margin is for each product and service? If you don’t know this are you charging enough to cover your costs?

Calculate your operating costs

Your employees’ salaries and all related costs, distribution and storage, as well as the actual cost of production are all operating cost and must be included.

Take action

Take stock and review your business spending including standing charges and working practices, you could uncover a few surprises.

Take Action

Check all your contracts and standing charges with your energy broadband and telephone suppliers. It’s proably that your business may be able to get cheaper deals and keep better track of usage.

Analyse all expenses that seem too high. There will be a way to reduce them if you do the research.

Adapting to change

On average, telecoms, IT and energy services amount to about 25% of total company expenditure. Depending on the size of your business, the amount of future savings can be significant. In fact, we’ve had an organization recover nearly £100,000 over 5 years after auditing their service bills.

So, the next question is, how should you conduct your essential services audit?

There are both benefits and disadvantages to doing an inhouse audit versus outsourcing the audit. Doing an in-house audit may seem like it is the most cost efficient but could lead to company biases, lack of information, and ultimately not give you the best savings available.

Trident have subject matter expertise in energy, IT, telecoms and business services. Consider working with Trident to conduct an overall audit.

Reducing costs for essential business services is surprisingly easy. Get a low risk free of charge audit carried out by experts and start saving money with Trident
